Susan Rushing, MD, JD is the founder and medical director of Holistic Cognitive Consultants and the Retreat & Restore Healing Arts Center. Dr. Rushing is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and the American Board of Preventative Medicine with a sub-specialty in Addiction Medicine. Dr. Rushing is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Rushing earned a Bachelor of Science in Brain and Cognitive Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), M.D. at Yale School of Medicine, and J.D. at Stanford Law School. She completed her internship in Pediatrics at Children's National Medical Center and residency in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also trained in Forensic Psychiatry and was a Clinical Research Scholar.
Dr. Rushing is licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and California and she has a telehealth license in Florida. Dr. Rushing is a certified provider of trans-cranial
magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy.
Dr. Rushing specializes in the treatment of mood disorders including: treatment refractory depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, mood disorders during pregnancy and the post-partum period and in neuromodulation including TMS.
Aneela Khan, MD is board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Khan earned her medical degree from Khyber Medical College in Pakistan and completed her residency in Psychiatry at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. She completed a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine and a Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine.
Following her extensive training, Dr. Khan joined Drexel University College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry. She served as the Director of the Child and Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatry Service and was an integral member of the faculty that supervised Psychiatry Residents and Child Psychiatry Fellows at Drexel. Dr. Khan has extensive forensic experience through her work as an evaluator at the Juvenile Justice Center in Philadelphia.
Dr. Khan joined Holistic Cognitive Consultants in 2020. She provides comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents ages 3-18. Dr. Khan is an expert in the evaluation and treatment of childhood disorders such as Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression and PTSD.
Barbara Wingate, MD has long been a champion for the integration of conventional and alternative healthcare treatments. This integration is essential for her longstanding traditional population of patients with complex medical and psychiatric concerns, a group she is comfortable treating due to years as the consult liason psychiatist at the Hospital of the University of Pennslvania. This approach also works well for the large number of us concerned with leading happier, healthier, more fully-lived lives, another significant portion of her clientele.
As a board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Wingate is firmly committed to staying abreast of the most current psychiatric practices, including pharmaceuticals and new treatment modalities, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation . Well-connected in the psychiatric community, she collaborates with physicians from the academic and research communities.
Dr. Wingate earned her undergradete degree from Bucknell University, medical degree from Temple University and completed residency in Psyciatry at the University of Pennsylvania. She is certified in Kundalini yoga and meditation, which she has taught at the American Psychiatric Association's annual meetings since 2004. She operated her own yoga center from 2003-2007. Additional training with Jon Kabat Zinn and completion of Penn's Stress Management practicum to teach meditation, demonstrate her commitment to these important modalities.
A diplomat of the American Board of Integrative Holistic medicine since 2005, Dr. Wingate is comforable with the use of supplements, vitamins and amino acids to enhance traditional pharmaceuticals or minimize the need for them. Her on-going participation in courses at Harvard and the Integrative Health Symposium help her to determine safe and appropriate use of these supplements as well as incorporate lifestyle changes into a personalized plan for mind-body-spirit health. Dr. Wingate also consults to the Renfrew Center. the first nationally known treatment facility for eating disorders. Her on going teaching of psychiatry residents and medical students at the University of Pennsylvania is a treasured part of her work.
Julie Huston RN, CYT is a Registered Nurse and Certified Pranakriya Yoga Teacher with an emphasis on meditation from Penn's Program for Mindfulness. Ms. Huston earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Sociology at The University of Colorado, Boulder and Nursing Degree from Community College of Denver. Upon graduating, she accepted a position with Main Line Health as a Resource Nurse for Lankenau, Bryn Mawr and Paoli Hospitals.
She has also worked at University of Pennsylvania as a Clinical Nurse Coordinator and IVF Consultant in Assisted Reproductive Technology.
Nurse Julie cares for her patients as a whole: integrating the mind and body connection to achieve heath and restore balance from within. She provides IV vitamin, mineral and antioxidant hydration therapy to aid in the management of symptoms associated with auto immune disorders, inflammatory processes and vitamin deficiencies. She also assists with injection medications and routine testing in the medical practice.
